Job Description
GLOMeF is seeking a Communication Officer to lead and implement communication strategies that enhance the organization’s visibility, engagement, and impact. The Communication Officer will be responsible for content creation, photography, videography, graphic design, social media management, and public relations, ensuring that the organization’s mission and projects reach target audiences effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic communication plans to promote GLOMeF’s programs and advocacy initiatives.
- Manage and update social media platforms, websites, and digital channels to engage diverse audiences.
- Create compelling written, visual, and multimedia content (articles, press releases, blog posts, infographics, and reports).
- Capture high-quality photographs and videos to document program activities, success stories, and advocacy efforts.
- Design graphics and promotional materials for digital and print media using tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Canva, etc.).
- Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and communication partners to enhance media coverage.
- Monitor and analyze communication metrics and engagement trends, adjusting strategies accordingly.
- Support the organization’s branding efforts, ensuring consistency in visual identity and messaging.
- Organize and coordinate press conferences, media briefings, and public engagement activities.
- Draft, edit, and proofread reports, newsletters, and speeches for internal and external audiences.
- Provide communication training and capacity-building support to project teams and partner organizations.
- Stay updated with emerging trends in digital media, storytelling, and communication technologies.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A minimum of a First Degree (Bachelor’s) in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, Media Studies, or a related field.
- At least three (3) years of experience working with an NGO in a communication-related role.
- Strong skills in content creation, photography, videography, and video editing.
- Proficiency in graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, etc.).
- Experience in social media management, website content management (WordPress), and digital marketing.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to capture and edit high-quality images and videos for advocacy and documentation.
- Strong understanding of media relations, public relations strategies, and press engagement.
- Knowledge of SEO, social media analytics, and audience engagement strategies.
- Experience in event planning and coordination related to media and public relations.
- Ability to work independently and travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- A postgraduate degree in Communication, Media, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Experience using motion graphics and animation tools (After Effects, Premiere Pro, or similar).
- Familiarity with human-centered storytelling and advocacy-based communication approaches.
